The Dharmashastra National Law University – Student Law Journal (DNLU-SLJ) is a peer-reviewed, student-run academic journal dedicated to promoting high-quality research in law and legal studies from comparative, global, and transdisciplinary perspectives. As the flagship publication of Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur (DNLU), the journal serves as a unique platform for students to express their opinions and insights through scholarly articles, research papers, book reviews, and case studies.

The journal has the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, as its “Patron-in-Chief” and the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, as its Patron. The print edition of the journal is registered under ISSN No. 3048-7536. The Advisory Board includes eminent scholars and professionals like Prof. (Dr.) Srikrishna Deva Rao, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Prof. Yaniv Roznai, Prof. Abhijit Das, Dr. Ajar Rab, and Mr. Manan Lahoty, amongst others.

About DNLU-SLJ Essay Writing Competition, 2025

DNLU-SLJ in collaboration with Singhania & Co. is hosting an “Essay Writing Competition” on the central theme of “Corporate and Commercial Laws.” This competition aims to provide students with an enriching academic experience in corporate and commercial laws and their intersections with diverse legal domains, thereby bridging the gap between scholarly inquiry and industry practice.

By integrating an essay writing competition into the initiative, the endeavour seeks to foster critical thinking, analytical writing, and a deeper understanding of contemporary legal challenges within the framework of corporate and commercial jurisprudence.

The Theme and Sub-Themes for the Competition

Central Theme: “Contemporary Developments in Corporate and Commercial Law”

Sub Themes: The following sub-themes are merely indicative areas of consideration for submissions. The authors are free to delve into any subject matter of contemporary relevance under the following subthemes

  • Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Private Equity and Venture Capital
  • Global Competition Law and Antitrust Regimes
  • Cross-Border Insolvency and Restructuring
  • International Capital Markets
  • International Banking and Finance Laws
  • Cross-border Investment and Trade Laws
  • Cross-Border Commercial Dispute Resolution
  • ESG Compliance in Corporate Law

Submission Guidelines

  • Word limit: 1500-2000 words, excluding the Footnotes.
  • Co-authorship is limited to a maximum of two (2) authors.
  • Essays must be original, unpublished, non-plagiarised and shall not be under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The main body of the essay: Times New Roman, Font Size 12, line spacing 1.5 and justified alignment.
  • Footnotes must be cited strictly in accordance with the latest OSCOLA (4th edition) format. No endnotes or descriptive footnotes are permitted.
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman font, Font Size 10 and line spacing 1.0.
  • Copyright of the essays selected for publication shall vest with DNLU.
  • The Journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in manuscript preparation. Similarity should be less than 15%.

Eligibility

  • Student/Research scholars enrolled in any UG/PG/PHD courses from any Indian University are eligible to participate in the competition.
  • Multiple entries from the same authors are not allowed.

Competition Timeline

  • Commencement of Registration: 14 October 2025 (Tuesday)
  • Last Date for Registration: 5 November 2025 (Wednesday)
  • Deadline for Essay Submission: 9 November 2025 (Sunday)
  • Declaration of Results: The results shall be tentatively announced by the last week of November 2025
  • Important Note: The submission link shall be communicated to the participants upon successful completion of the registration process.

Awards

The top three entries will receive the following cash prizes:

  • 1st Prize: Rs. 10,000
  • 2nd Prize: Rs. 7,500
  • 3rd Prize: Rs. 5,000

As the Knowledge Partner of the Competition, TheLegalVoice will be offering free courses worth up to ₹10,000 to the winners of the competition. In addition, all participants will be entitled to a 20% discount on the full range of courses offered by TheLegalVoice.

Publication

  • Top 10 papers will be published in a Special Volume of the DNLU – Student Law Journal and receive the certificate of merit.
  • All participants will receive the certificate for participation.

  • Rs. 300 for Single Authorship
  • Rs. 500 for Co-Authorship (up to 2 authors only)
